The first public outing of the Tacoma Food Coop was a great success. Lots of people came out in support of the TFC and expressed their excitement and support of the Food Coop's efforts.
Over 100 people signed up for memberships that day, giving us a great start to our membership goal of 2600 members!

In the spirit of supporting the community, People's Park came alive with activities for all. With games set aside for our young ones, local vendors showing their support of the Tacoma Food Co-op, and of course all of our talented volunteers Saturday was an event to behold.
We could not have been more fortunate to have such great weather for the day.
As Mt Rainier shone in the background, people of all walks of life were afforded the opportunity to hear more about the Tacoma Food Coop, speak with the numerous volunteers face to face and really come to better understand the goals we as a Cooperative have set for the future and how we plan to achieve them.

We thank you for your support and look forward to making a healthy, local source of quality food. If you have not yet signed up for a membership, contact us today for information about signing up!

Congratulations on your success!

What you have accomplished in Tacoma is an inspiration to us, and we hope it's a foreshadowing of what we can do here on the East Coast.
Like the Tacoma Food Co-op, PFC is trying to organize and open a retail market in a coastline community of about 200,000. We also began (pre-) organizing efforts in 2006, and are following the Co-op 500 plan.
Like you, we've recently incorporated and are sending our bylaws around for final vetting. Your history in this blog is full of shocks of recognition for us, as we've faced identical difficulties and criticisms, as well as similar progressive successes and community support.
We are actually a couple of steps behind you, trying to work up a feasibility study to be followed by a business plan, so we are especially eager to learn from your successes as they develop.
In the course of our growth, we have started a buying club for those who can't wait for the retail store, and one of our interesting problems is seeing how far its growth will bring us toward our eventual goal. So far it's been almost too successful--a great way to generate interest and bring in committed members, but with its own growing pains, too.
We know all too well how busy you are, but we would like to reach out to you to exchange ideas and information in the spirit of cooperation.
Our fledgling website with contact information is at

or, if you wish, feel free to respond to me directly, and I will pass the word along.
It's so encouraging for us to see people with the same ideals carrying them out, and we hope that our support and emulation can be meaningful for you as well.
Cooperatively,
